51 (who?)

Can any American--
No, can anyone really say
"God bless America"
without recognizing the irony
in speaking those words
as we live in a nation
that applauds evil
and mistakes lawlessness for freedom?

We live in a nation
where everyone does what is right
in their own eyes,
A nation where we encourage
achieving success at any cost,
where we desire sex
with no boundaries,
where we proclaim spirituality
without God.

Welcome to the temple
of our idol named Pleasure,
and like a whore she enters
our hearts through our pockets.

We stuff our faces with that bread
to fill our bellies instead of our souls,
We drink our fill of wine to get drunk
and forget His bloodshed on the cross.

"America, America, God shed His grace on thee"
So we can look spiritual
as we say 'Amen' every Sunday
and then laugh in Jesus' face
at the movie theatre
as we watch blasphemy on the big screen.

We sing Amazing Grace at funerals
and "how sweet the sound";
that we expect to be
entertained wherever we go,
or else it's not worth our time.

And the only time we remember
and talk about His Holy Name
is when we blurt it out
as a common curse word.

We call her America the Beautiful
as she glamorizes sex, drugs, and anorexia
and lives in her own twisted idea
of happily ever after
yet never truly happy
ever after.

America the Free
yet a slave to Pleasure,
so quick to sell your soul to her
because she's all fun and no honesty.
She'd rather play pretend
than listen to ugly truth,
for her motto is "ignorance is bliss".

Wake up, America
Pull back your blinds
and let the light in
through your windows
of red, white, and blue,
Look and see the gold
of God's promises
far outshine the green
of your wallet,

and remember Christ,
who inspired heroes to take a stand
and to make the place a land of the free
and a home of the brave.
Yes, I dare to say the words in this poem even as someone who has been an American citizen since birth. The country is glamorized so much yet fails to see its own ugly truths.  Can we really say "God bless America" on Independence Day even as the country remains in its state of perversion?

But of course it's not just true for America; it's true about the world in general. The world is corrupted and follows its own ideals of what is right, rather than what really is right.

What is the real question? Is it 'Can we' or 'Should we'? We care too much about what the media thinks rather than what God says. It fails to see the flaws in living just to please ourselves and everyone, even to the point of hiding away real Truth so not to offend anybody. But sadly, it's those who desire not to be hurt who will be hurt in the end, and that in itself is a heartbreaking truth.

There is still hope. God has not abandoned the world. That's why He gave up His Son, Jesus, to the cross for our transgressions. He gives the gift of everlasting life so we can be free of our slavery to sin. He died for us so we can live for Him. We live for Him so others can know the truth and be free too.

I don't expect anyone to listen or agree with me. But I rather speak truthfully, even if the truth may hurt.

Amen! I've been thinking this a lot lately, but you put it far more eloquently. It makes me sad to watch it all happening, and yet it makes me happy too, because it means that Bible Prophesy is being fulfilled and it's almost time for us to go home.

Very well spoken Jazzy! You really captured what Christians around our country are waking up and feeling. I would not give up on our country, and we CAN take it back, but then, for God's prophecy to come true and for Jesus to return, can it really play the same role it had? In any case, I want what's best for the country and for my family. Not what's easiest or to have our nation plundered.

America was a God fearing nation no less! However, it isn't one any longer. Farewell America. I'll miss you. :flagus:
